Ardennes, south of Liege

July 2011 - People are very friendly here, but you wouldn't tell by the signs. You stumble over signs telling people to keep out - some adding a threat of live ammo, ‘very dangerous traps’ and/or poison.

There are also quite a few signs telling motorists to beware of playing children. The children on some of the signs are somewhat reminiscent of Suske en Wiske.

Detail of a sign boasting not just Comblain’s tourist attractions, but also it’s mining industry?

Bridge ahead.

Very cool handcraft.

Why, thank you IGLO-OLA, I guess.

Maastricht - Ardennes vv

July 2011 - Mostly along the excellent RAVeL cycling and walking route, with its many cute little signs. Despite the Wallonian taste for défense this, interdit that signs, cyclists are allowed on areas closed to most other road users by the port authority. And if there is a terrain they’re not allowed on, elaborate signs will tell them how to get round it.

Interruptions of the path reserved for cyclists and pedestrians are indicated meticulously:

Oops.

Notice the cool bicycle image.
